Message from the Executive Director

Julio Ponce Headshot

Our State Representatives work tirelessly year-round along our side to secure funds for the Housing Authority. Today, I am pleased to announce that our State representatives Bryan Avila, Alex Rizo, Tom Fabricio, and Senator Manny Diaz have secured the sum of 3.9 million for the construction of a new affordable elderly building in the heart of Hialeah, which will be part of the Hoffman Garden Redevelopment project. Our Commissioner, Senator Rene Garcia, also allocated an additional 2 million from the Miami-Dade Affordable Housing Trust to help this project come to fruition. Our State Representatives were also able to secure 2.5 mil for the elderly Hot Lunch program, this is the highest funding for this program's existence. Together, we continue to make Hialeah thrive. Thank you for your support and for reading this quarter's newsletter.

Julio Ponce,
Executive Director

Vivian Villas Ribbon Cutting

Individuals participating in a ribbon cutting. Vivian Villas was built in 1971, it is an elderly building of 100 units in the heart of our beautiful city located at 4650 W 12 Avenue, Hialeah, Fl 33012. This property was named in honor of Commissioner Vivian Hoffman, who was appointed by the Mayor of Hialeah to the first established Board of Commissioners of the Hialeah Housing Authority on February 14, 1967.

On June 7, 2022, the Hialeah Housing Authority proudly celebrated the renovation of Vivian Villas. At our Housing Authority, we take pride of the upkeeping of our properties, and on this date, we celebrate another job well done. The leaders of the community gathered once again to support the Housing Authority. Chairwoman Barbara Hernandez, Commissioners Juan Junco, and Fara Alvarez were present supporting our community. We want to thank Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart for his support to the Housing Authority by allocating funds to upkeep our properties. Senator Rene Garcia was not only present, but he donated lunch as a token of appreciation to his constituents. Our State Representatives also came to support and celebrate State Rep. Alex Rizo, State Rep. Tom Fabricio, and State Rep. David Borrero. Our Local Elected officials are always present and supporting our community and Housing Authority, Mayor Esteban Bovo Jr., Councilwoman Vivian Casals-Muños, Councilwoman Jacqueline Garcia-Roves, and Councilman Jesus Tundidor. We also had the honor of having Roberto Alonso, a candidate for the Board of Education, among many others not mentioned.

Police/Fire Fraud Prevention Presentation

Individuals having a conference. Fraud is becoming more eminent among the elderly nationwide, therefore, early this year, leaders in the community concluded that it was necessary to put together a fraud prevention task force and conduct educational seminars to protect and educate the elderly community population. We partnered with the Hialeah and Fire Departments to bring educational information to the elderly, and we also have direct access to the police special fraud task force. We also put together a bag with essential items to prevent fraud, such as a special ballpoint pen that prevents the ink to be erased on any written physical check, among other useful items.
